We review Door Buster to see what is on offer

doorbusterWhen you enter the DoorBuster.com.au website it clearly has distanced itself from Woolworths and that’s the way they intended. It is a bare bones site and functions very similar to other deals sites around like the grocery run and supermarket deals. However, I was a little surprised at the lack of discounted groceries on the site, but can see that there is a clear case of dipping ones toes in many market segments to see what works. So lets have a look at some of the Door Buster specials.

Pepsi  Max cans  8x375ml (3) $12.00 (Unit Price 50c can) (no manufactured location)
Considering you can get Pepsi for this price or less, just about any day of the week this is no real door buster, in fact Pepsi is as low as 40c most weeks

Cadbury Dairy Milk Mousse  3 x 160G $6.00 (Unit Price $2.00) (No maunfacturer location)
Regular visitors to myPrice.com.au will know that the price point for a 200g block of chocolate is $2.00 so no real savings there

Trolli Red & Green Frogs 1.1.kg $5.00 (made in China)
Comparable to the 1kg bag of frogs and snakes I bought from my local Foodworks for $3.99 and these were made by a Melbourne manufacturer

Pringles 4 x 182g $10.00 (Unit Price $2.50) (Made in USA)
Again $2.50 is an ok price but I buy my Pringles when they are on sale for $2.00 or less

Be quick as there were only 14144 tubes left No need to hurry with this many reminaing

Huggies Baby Wipes Box (6x64) $16.98 (Made in UK)
This doesn't seem like a bad price but most Mothers I know prefer the Johnson & Johnson Baby Wipes Box (480 wipes) at the everyday BigW price of $16.82

Finish Tablets 100pk $22.00 (Made in Germany)

We thought that this price was good enough to buy, so we did and it's taken 3 business days to arrive. The package is full of foriegn languages so lucky there are a few pictures.

Door Buster Free Delivery over $20Door Buster offer next day shipping (not next day delivery) and free delivery for orders over $20 and if you have an Woolworths Everyday Rewards card, otherwise delivery starts fromNote this now says selected items $10.89 and isn't a fixed price.
NB: You must enter your rewards card details in each time you make a purchase as it functions a bit like a coupon.

It's stated that all savings are calculated using the grocery prices on Woolworths Online.

The distinctive red colouring on the site makes me feel that it's going to have a strong food presence, as red is the colour that makes you hungry (it's no coincidence that the all major food outlets have red in their branding). It was a little disappointing to see the same old, same old in discounted food prices, and Door Buster had a real opportunity to make a larger impact to this market. Lets hope another player enters the market soon that understands that being the same isn't going to equate to more market share. Being better will.

Smart Shopper

The Grocery Run as recently seen on Today Tonight may not actually have the fantastic discounts that were reported as the prices are compared to the off the shelf prices at Coles and Woolworths. Now given that The Grocery Run is bi-monthly I'd say they should be considered as specials and that deserves a whole different grocery price comparison.
